Charity - The First Tenet

The first tenet of the Knights of Columbus is charity.  Our Council lives up to that tenet.  After covering our operating expenses and maintaining a minimum cash reserve, all of our proceeds are funneled back into community needs.  Some of our good works are summarized below:

Cash Donations

Our council donates tens of thousands of dollars each year to community needs and causes.  Requests are made through the Grand Knight or any member who wishes to advocate for the request.   Our council has a charity committee that reviews requests each month and selects which requests are worthy to be brought forward to the membership for action.  A significant portion of each of our general meetings is spent presenting, discussing and authorizing these expenditures.

Thanksgiving Baskets & Christmas Baskets

Our Council makes up hundreds of food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  These are distributed to those who have made requests through the Grand Knight or through a council member or through recognized need of the priests at Holy Spirit or St. Joseph parish.

Blood Drives

Our council  conducts a blood drive each quarter at our Hall.  Member Knights are encouraged to participate.

Adopt a Highway

Our council has adopted a 2 mile stretch of Lovers Lane.  We canvas it quarterly.

Special People

As a national organization the Knights of Columbus supports the Special Olympics through their yearly Tootsie Roll Drive.  Our council participates in that drive but also supports the needs of Special People locally through our Fun Nite events.  Read more about this effort at this link: Fun Nite & Tootsie Roll Drive
